Dr. Adam Shriver

Dr. Shriver is the Director of Wellness and Nutrition at the Harkin Institute for Public Policy and Citizen Engagement at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He holds a PhD from the Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology program at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Shriver’s research examines the intersection of ethics and cognitive science, and he has written multiple articles about food ethics, human well-being, and animal welfare. Dr. Shriver has a long history of writing and speaking about genetics, welfare, and ethics. For example, he was invited to serve as an expert panelist for the UK’s Nuffield Council of Bioethics report on Genome Editing and Farmed Animal Breeding and has spoken on the topic at the National Academy of Sciences ILAR Roundtable. Dr. Shriver has also been a co-author of several publications examining public attitudes towards biotechnology and welfare. Dr. Shriver has also organized several events related to his research topics at universities such as the University of Oxford, the University of British Columbia, the London School of Economics, and the annual meeting of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness.
